A single definition of  the creative economy may be elusive, but virtually all studies on this segment  of the economy acknowledge its contributions to the overall economy, both pecuniary and non-pecuniary. Knowing the composition of the creative economy in California as well as its contribution to the overall economy enables stakehold-ers to make more informed decisions about supporting the arts and other creative industries.
